Ray N. Sweesy Jr., 61, of Freedom, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Beaver, after a short courageous battle with cancer.
Born August 31, 1955, in Rochester to Loretta J. (Suska) Sweesy Alexander and the late Ray N. Sweesy Sr. Ray was employed by Abtrex where he was a welder. He was also a former member of the Pine Run Fire Department. Ray will be remembered as a gentle and kind person with a heart of gold. All that loved and knew Ray will also remember him as a fun-loving and easy going spirit.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bernard Alexander and Uncle Andy and Aunt Kate Senic.
Surviving is the pride of his life, his son, Evan Sweesy of Freedom; three sisters, Bernadette Mehno of Freedom, Debbi Altvatter and her companion Michael "Alabama" Robinson of Freedom, and MaryAnn (Tim) Rider of Georgetown; a brother, Keith Sweesy of Conway; several nieces and nephews and their families; and numerous friends, including life-long friend Tim Barnick.
Friends will be received Monday, May 8, 2017, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com. A service will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Cindy McClung officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for the compassionate care given to Ray over the past few weeks.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or a charity of choice.
