David Harris Obituary

David R. Harris
New Brighton
David R. Harris, 74, of New Brighton, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Brighton Rehab and Wellness Center.
Born September 14, 1943, in New Brighton, a son of the late Michael Kline and Doris Ora (Dawson) Harris. As a longtime resident of New Brighton and a 1961 graduate of New Brighton High School, he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and baseball. He was selected to the 1960 Class A first team All-Star Football team and considered one of the best quarterbacks in New Brighton School history. He played basketball for the famed Midland basketball coach, Hank Kuzma, in the North-South All-Star basketball game at Farrell High School in 1961. Coach Kuzma called him "The surprise of the game." He was the MVP for the West baseball team in the East-West All-Star Legion baseball game in Monessen, Pa., in 1961.
After graduating from high school, he successfully completed the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Power School and served in the U.S. Navy for six years as a submariner. In a small way he was a renaissance man. He enjoyed movies and starred in the film, Order of the Eagle, by Action International Pictures in 1989.
He spent much of his career managing restaurants in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, Calif. He loved animals, was an avid golfer and enjoyed detective novels. Most importantly, he was loved by many and will be missed.
Surviving are one son, David Michael Harris, Palmdale, Calif.; daughters, Shannon Harris, Pittsburgh, and Bridgette (Chris) Haydu, Yuba City, Calif.; one grandson, Liam Haydu; his former wife, Carolyn Ann (Molder) Nairn, Brighton Twp.; two sisters, Lee Enke, Manassas, Va., and Nancy (George) Kriska, Hacienda Heights, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jim "Hammer" Harris and one brother-in-law, Don Enke.
At his request there will be no services.  Arrangements by the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com.
The family wish memorials be made in his name to the Beaver County Cancer & Heart Association, 3582 Brodhead Rd., Ste. 201, Monaca, PA 15061.
