James R. Steppe Jr.
New Brighton
James R. Steppe Jr., 89, of New Brighton, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019.
Jim was born on June 21, 1929, the son of James R. Steppe Sr. and Margaret (Miltenberger) Steppe. He was a graduate of New Brighton High School, class of 1947, and served in the U.S. Air Force as a staff sergeant from 1947 - 1953. He married Teresa (Gaudio) Steppe in 1954. He was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Jim was an engineering manager at Westinghouse for 37 years where he was highly regarded as a fair and respected manager.
Jim had a knack for putting people at ease. He was not a complicated man. His family always came first (and bowling second); he gave 100% to everything he did, and he let his actions speak louder than words. These are the values he instilled in his children.
Jim was an avid bowler and golfer well into later life. Over the years, he served on the Daugherty Township Planning Commission, was an altar server, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Holy Name Society where he was named "Man of the Year" in 2005.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Margaret; sister, Peg; and brothers, Jack and Tom.
He is survived by Teresa, his loving wife of 65 years; his children, Tom, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Terri, Petersburg, Mich.; Jean, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Jim, New Brighton, Pa.; and their spouses, and grandchildren, Emma, Anika, Grace, and Oliver, all of whom will miss him greatly.
There will be no public visitation.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial in Jim's honor at Holy Family Catholic Church in New Brighton on Wednesday, April 17, at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Brighton.
