Joanne Spooner Paulson-Sawyer, 86, of New Brighton, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.
Born October 1, 1932 in Beaver Falls she was the daughter of Everett and Grace (Harding) Spooner. She was a member of Beaver Falls High School’s 1950 class, who was active as a Girl Scout leader, Day Camp director, and a past president of the N.B. Lioness. She was a member of the New Brighton United Methodist Church for over 50 years, and held various roles in the church from, choir member to president, Sunday School teacher, mixed adult classes, and many other committees. She also did funeral dinners, lead retreats, and was most recently the director of the Pre-School for 17 years.
She is survived by her husband John P. Sawyer, a son and daughter-in-law William and Anna Paulson, New Brighton, a daughter and son-in-law Christine and Robert Bierline, New Brighton, stepson, John (Toni) Sawyer, Highlandtown, Ohio, stepdaughter, Ann McAnlis and Jacob Johnson, Crafton, 16 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Paulson, and brother Donald Spooner.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the J&J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 3rd Ave. New Brighton, and Wednesday from 10am until the time of service at 11am in the New Brighton United Methodist Church 1033 6th Ave New Brighton, officiating will be Pastor Scott Berkley and Pastor Dan Stinson.
Interment will be at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
