Albert E. Flajnik

Albert E. Flajnik, 91, of Rochester Twp., passed away Monday, January 29, 2018, in the H.J. Heinz Veterans Administration Center, Aspinwall.

Born in New Brighton on March 15, 1926, a son of the late Frank and Barbara (Kobe) Flajnik, Albert was a veteran of World War II serving with distinction in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and discharged in 1946. He was a member of the Boilermakers Local 154 from 1957 to his retirement in 1988. He was renowned for his welding prowess and served as foreman on many jobs in Shippingport, Braddock and West Pittsburgh. He was often called in on weekends for repair jobs at power plants throughout western Pennsylvania.

In his younger years, he was an active member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Rochester, serving as one of the first lectors in this church when this service was instituted by Vatican II, and also assisting on various committees, for example the building committee in charge of the new church in 1969. He was a faithful member of the 3rd Order of St. Francis, served on the Beaver County Deanery, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and former president of Holy Name.  After retirement, he was a volunteer for many years at McGuire Memorial in New Brighton.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Nada (2002); brothers, Frank (1925) and George (2000) and sister, Frances (1996).

Albert is survived by his three children, Rosemary, Martin (Susan) and Christine (Ismael); four grandchildren, Ariel (Alfred), Miguel, Natalia and Amanda; two sisters-in-law, Sally Flajnik and Barbara Siktar, many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where prayers will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Cecilia's Catholic Cemetery, Daugherty Twp.

Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the cemetery to provide full military honors.

In lieu of flowers or food preparation, please donate in Albert's name to either McGuire Memorial or St. Cecilia's Church, 628 Virginia Ave., Rochester, PA 15074. The family request no food be brought to the home, instead make a donation, in Albert's name, to a local food bank.
