Alberta "Bertie" Zahn, born March 17, 1928 in New Brighton, PA, to the late Walter and Florence (Rombold) Drummond, passed away Monday, November 7, 2011 in Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Advance, NC.
For many years, Bertie and her loving husband, Emerson, married since November 8, 1947, lived in New Brighton where they raised their family before retiring to Clemmons, NC. Bertie was a homemaker who enjoyed entertaining, cooking, baking, playing cards, and crafting. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. After moving to North Carolina, she faithfully attended and served Centenary United Methodist Church in Clemmons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth and Leroy Zahn; a daughter, Shirley Zahn; two brothers, Burton and Eugene Drummond, and a sister, Beatrice DiDonato.
Surviving are her husband, Emerson LeRoy Zahn of Clemmons, NC; a daughter, Donna M. Scherer of Cambridge, MD; three grandchildren, Michael P. Scherer Jr. and wife Bobbie, Gretchen R. Scherer, and Emerson Zahn T. Scherer; four great-grandchildren, Michael Scherer III, Parker Scherer, Anthony Neville, and Paige Neville, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received Saturday, November 19, 2011, from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. in Concord United Methodist Church, North Sewickley Township.
Interment will follow in Concord Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later time at her church in North Carolina.
