Anita J. Steward, 99, a lifelong resident of New Brighton, PA and in recent years Sherwood Oaks, Cranberry Township, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, of natural causes.
Anita was born on June 2, 1916, to the late Frederick A. and Anna J. (Phelan) Steward. She was a lifelong member of Holy Family R.C. Church (formerly St. Joseph Church) where she was a member of the Senior Choir and faithfully counted the weekly collection for many years. She also volunteered for many years at the Beaver Valley General Hospital. Anita was graduated from St. Joseph Parochial School and New Brighton High School. She retired after many years of faithful service from the Beneficial Finance Company of Beaver Falls, PA.
Anita is predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth Hines, M. Patricia Pardee, Regina Steward, and Katharine Eaton; her brothers, Richard, Frederick, Robert, Donal, and William and a nephew, John Steward. She is survived by 18 nieces and nephews and numerous grandnieces and nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews.
Anita was known for her great sense of humor and infectious laugh, and her kindness and sensitivity to all who crossed her path in life. She was also known for her uncompromising love for her many friends and especially her family, who cherish treasured memories of their personal relationship with her. Her enduring legacy will be the gentle, positive mark she left on each of their lives. She will be sorely missed by all.
The family would like to publicly thank the nurses, social workers and staff of the Long Term Care Unit at Sherwood Oaks in Cranberry Township. We appreciate that in the last years of her life Anita received kind, sensitive, loving care given freely by the staff each and every day.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 9 a.m. at Holy Family R.C. Church on Seventh Avenue in New Brighton, PA. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated by the Reverend Thomas Kredel at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Brighton.
