Anna L. (Smith) Watkins

Anna L. (Smith) Watkins New Brighton Anna L. (Smith) Watkins, 93, of New Brighton, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, March 11, 2018, at Lakeview Personal Care Home, Darlington, where she had resided for 3 ½ years. Born in Derry, Pa., on March 6, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Jesse (Beaner) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James Brooke Watkins, in 1987. Anna was a secretary in the 1940's at Latrobe Steel and later at the Pentagon. She was a homemaker and a business owner of Pennsylvania Handicrafts in New Brighton for many years and was a member of the New Brighton United Methodist Church. She is survived by daughters, Karen (John) Nelson, Chippewa Twp., and Debby Libengood, Chantilly, Va.; grandsons, Ryan Nelson, Chicago, Ill., and Greg (Stacy) Nelson, Jupiter, Fla., and great-grandson, Greyson Nelson and another (Carter) on the way. Friends will be received Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 7 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, with the Rev. Scott Berkley officiating. Private burial will take place in Cole's Cemetery, Derry, Pa. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Lakeview for the care she received and also the staff of Heartland Hospice.
