Carl Roy 'Smitty' Smith
Carl Roy "Smitty" Smith, 96, of New Brighton, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.
Born October 18, 1918 in New Brighton, a son of the late Carl A. and Florence M. (Balderson) Smith, he was a graduate of New Brighton High School and a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. Carl was retired from the former Standard Collapsible Tube Co. and was a member of the American Legion Post #19 and the Oak Hill Vets, both in New Brighton. He was an avid fisherman and loved camping.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Marie (Angeley) Smith, 1986; two sons, Gerald L. Smith, 1978, and Daniel B. Smith, 1996, and a grandson, James Austin Smith, 1972.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Linda Smith, Euclid, OH; Carl E. and Deborah Smith, Rochester, and Robert D. and Loretta Smith, Ellwood City; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Stan Cica, Brighton Twp.; 11 grandchildren Aaron (Mikaella), Carl E. Jr., Heather, Stacy, Diane (Joseph), Derek (Jessica), Ashley, Jerry (Amanda), Jeanette, Michelle (Michael) and Chelsea; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, James Angeley, Westminster, CA and several nieces, nephews and their families.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where a blessing service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. with Rev. Father Tom Kredel officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Brighton.
Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the cemetery to provide military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made in his name to Good Samaritan Hospice, 3500 Brooktree Rd., Wexford, PA 15090.
