Charles Calvin Plues

Charles C. Plues, 76, of Conway died Saturday, September 29, 2012, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 17, 1936, in Sewickley, he was the son of the late Charles C. and Mildred (Boggs) Plues. Charles was a brakeman and conductor on the Aliquippa and Southern Railroad.  He was a former vice-president of United Transportation Union Local 1744 Trainman, retired from Holy Family Institute, Emsworth, and previously worked for Gabauer Funeral Home.  Charles was a member of the Ambridge Lodge, 701, F&A M, Consistory of Scottish Rites, New Castle, and the Syria Temple where he was a member of the Syria Temple Brass Band and Stage Band.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Marshall Islands and was a member of North Branch Presbyterian Church, Monaca.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Irene and George Idzojtic, and a brother-in-law, George L. Idzojtic.

Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Donna K.  (Idzojtic) Plues; two daughters and a son-in-law, Susan K. and William Anderson, New Brighton, and Shari L. Rogan and her companion, James Yaria, North Sewickley Twp.; three grandchildren, Ashley Rogan, Conway; Jessica (Anderson) Kurtz and her husband, Andrew; Bradley Anderson, all of New Brighton; a nephew, Jeffrey A. Idzojtic, North Huntingdon; a niece, Jill Hagelauer and her husband, Rick, Carnegie, and a long time friend, Edward Kardasz, Baden.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com.  A service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.  Pastor Andrew Beery, officiating.

Cremation will follow all services.

Memorial contributions may be made, in his name, to Shriners Children Hospital, 1645 West 8th St., Erie, PA16505 or to your favorite charity.

The Beaver County Special Unit will meet in the funeral home Thursday at 11:30 a.m. to conduct full military honors for Charles.

The family wishes to extend its deepest appreciation to Dr. Slemenda, Dr. Jackson, Dr. Everhart and staff for their exceptional care and kindness for Charles during his lengthy illness. The family would like to thank Lelsie, Betty, Jean, Richard, and Jennifer of Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care given to Charles and the support given to the family.  A special thank you is also extended to the Veteran's Administration care givers, Lisa, Natasha, and Jay.
