Clara Ellen DeVinney
Clara Ellen "Terry" DeVinney, of New Brighton, PA passed away peacefully, February 16, 2014, and went to her Heavenly Home to be with her Lord in Duluth, GA.
She was born February 24, 1920, in Ellwood City, PA. As a young girl, Terry worked at the Lawrence County Courthouse and the Telephone Company as an operator. When raising her family she worked for Troutman's Department Store in New Castle and was active in the First Presbyterian Church. Terry married Paul DeVinney on October 31, 1970 and moved to New Brighton where she enjoyed the last forty years of her life traveling with Paul and enjoying her grandchildren. Terry's faith in God served her throughout her life. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a deacon and was responsible for the greeter committee. She enjoyed working with women in the Angels Group knitting gifts for children.
Terry was preceded in death by her husband, Paul DeVinney, three sisters and a brother.
Surviving Terry are her children, Joy Gray of Atlanta, Candace Sherer of Selinsgrove, PA and son and daughter-in-law Wally and Cindy Sherer of Atlanta. Also surviving are stepchildren, Karen DeMarco of Las Vegas and John DeVinney of New Brighton, and her loving and devoted niece, Carol Buzzelli of Ellwood City. Terry was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Terry spent her last years living in Atlanta with her daughter, Joy. Her last weekend was spent visiting her granddaughter and namesake, Terri Miller, at her salon to have her signature red hair styled. That was followed Sunday when she attended church with her son and granddaughter, Laura Borden.
Family and friends will be received at the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, on Friday, February 21, 2014, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, friends can visit the family between 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 115 North Mercer Ave. There will then be a celebration of Terry's life at 11:30 a.m., officiated by Pastor Jordan Rimmer. Family and friends will then gather for lunch in the fellowship hall.
Private interment will take place in Grove Cemetery, New Brighton.
