Cynthia (Gearhart) Hum

Cynthia (Gearhart) Hum, 91, of New Brighton, passed away Saturday February 11, 2012 in her home.

Born March 3, 1920, in Curwensville, PA, a daughter of the late Norman and Vera (Leilich) Gearhart. She was retired from the New Brighton School District where she was head cook and had also worked at the former Rochester Hospital during World War II where she was head dietician. She was a member of the New Brighton United Methodist Church and was a former president of the Church Women United. She was a former president for both the New Brighton Band Parents and Football Mothers.

Surviving are her husband, whom she married February 27, 1949, Edward J. Hum; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward D. and Lori Hum, Port Charlotte, FL, and Norman J. Hum, New Brighton; five grandchildren, Erin Burnette, Cole (Catie) Hum, Emily Hum, Cori and Jacob Hartman; two great-grandchildren, Peyton and Jaxson; one sister, Norma Spadaro, DuBois, and several nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, Daniel, William and Donald Gearhart.

Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rita Platt-Anderson of the New Brighton United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Grove Cemetery, New Brighton.
