Darlene R. (Grant) Hovancik

Darlene (Grant) Hovancik, 75, of New Brighton, passed away Dec. 1, 2021 at the home of her daughter, Tina, with whom she resided for the past 10 years.

Born Aug.19, 1946 in Beaver Falls, she was the daughter of the late Charles (Bucky) and Dorothy Bowen Grant. On February 8, 1964, Darlene married Albert Hovancik Jr., who survives at home. Darlene worked for 29 years at the Beaver Medical Center, now Heritage Valley-Beaver, lastly as an anesthesia technician. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Bingo and doing ceramics.

In addition to her husband, Darlene is survived by a son, Timothy ‘Toby’ Hovancik and his wife Sonya of New Brighton; and two daughters, Tina Townley and her husband Vincent of New Brighton, and Jeannine Hovancik Newhouse and her husband, William, of Findlay, Ohio.

Also surviving are two brothers, Robert (Veronica) Grant and Richard (Janet) Grant; and two sisters, Karen (Ron) Erath and Roni (Michael) Hicks; as well as nine grandchildren, Matthew(Laura), Andrew, Anna, Amanda, Katelyn, Madison, Brittany, Casie and Alena; and five great-grandchildren – Ethan, Grayson, Caroline, Lee and Elle, several nieces, nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, Darlene was preceded in death by a son, James ‘Hovan’ Hovancik, and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hovancik.

Friends will be received Friday from 2:00pm- 6:00pm in the J&J Spratt Funeral home, 1612 Third Avenue, New Brighton and Saturday from 10:00am until time of funeral service at 11:00am with Heartland Chaplin Fred Chapin officiating.

Private interment will take place in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.
