Donald William Custer

Donald William Custer, 92, of New Brighton, passed away at his home, Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

Born July 19, 1931, in New Brighton, he was the only child of the late Floyd and Helen (Sheets) Custer.  Upon graduating New Brighton High School, Don enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He was a retired Manager of Manufacturing for the former Tuscarora Plastics, a job that took he and his wife to places like England and Ireland to start up factories.  He was a member of New Brighton Methodist Church, for over 80 years, where he held various positions.  He was a chairman for the New Brighton Sesquicentennial, a scout master, rotary club member, former school board member, and fireman.  He also was a 32nd degree Mason Worshipful Master, past master of Union Lodger No. 259 F&AM, New Brighton, and a member of the Consistory in New Castle.

Surviving Don, is his wife of over 70 years, Phyllis (Coxson) Custer, children, Brad and Donna Custer, and Pam and Don Kitner, grandchildren, Jen (Evan) Potpinka, Danielle (Dale) McGlaughlin, Emily (Adam) Daubenspeck, great-grandchildren, Camilla Potpinka, and Elyana Daubenspeck.

Along with his parents he was predeceased by his grandson, Jeremy Custer.

Friends will be welcomed Thursday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, in the J&J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 3rd Ave., New Brighton, and Friday, from 10am until the time of service at 11am, in the New Brighton Methodist Church, 1033 6th Ave, New Brighton, Pastor Gary Hilton officiating.

Interment will follow at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.

Masonic service will be held at New Brighton Methodist Church at 10:45am, Friday, by order of the Worshipful Master of Union Lodge No. 259.

The family would like to thank Tina of Anova Care and Good Samaritan Hospice.

Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at noon at the cemetery to offer military honors to Don.
