Dorothy M. DeMaggio, 95, of New Brighton, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2016, in her home, surrounded by her family.
Born May 11, 1921, in New Brighton, she is the daughter of the late William and Mary (Boyle) Mooney. Dorothy enjoyed writing poetry which inspired her to write a book of poetry for her grandchildren. She also loved animals and was a member of Holy Family Parish, New Brighton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip DeMaggio; one brother, James Mooney; three sisters, Theresa Mooney, Elizabeth McMurdy, and Alice Allison.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Badger, New Brighton; two grandchildren and their spouses, Brenda (Tim) Hankinson, Mercer; Robert (Leht) Badger, New Brighton; four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Megan, Molly Hancock, and Samantha Badger; many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Friends will be received Monday December 26, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com. Prayers will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Parish, New Brighton, with Father Tom Kredel officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Brighton.

Has anyone ever asked you, have you seen God today?
And if they did, I wonder what you wuld really say.
I saw Him in the seeds that broke through fresh plowed ground,
I saw Hiim in a babbling brook with flowers all around,
I saw Him in the love that fills the family home,
I saw Him in a moment when I was all alone,
I saw Him in the evening when the sun began to set,
In times of joyful happiness, in times of sad regret.
But most of all, I saw Him in love forevermore,
For this is God's most greatest gift,
Of this you can be sure.
