Ella Jean Matheny, 93, of Patterson Twp., passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehab Center, South Beaver Twp.
Born November 2, 1921 in Grove City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Elsie (Truin) McCarl. She worked for the New Brighton Area School District in the cafeteria. She was a member of the Beaver Valley Frostettes Cake Club and she was known for her beautiful wedding and birthday cakes. She was a longtime member of the Grace United Methodist Church, New Brighton, where she was a member of the Methodist Women and homemakers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Matheny Sr.; grandson, Christopher Matheny; daughter, Sandra Matheny Cornelius and a longtime friend, Bessie Stewart; three brothers, Clifford, David, and Jimmy; four sisters, Louise, Mildred, Martha, and Betty.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean (Bob) Greco, Rock Hill, SC; Karen Fredericks, Rock Hill SC; two sons, David (Donna) Matheny Jr., New Brighton; Bruce (Kim) Matheny, South Beaver Twp.; 13 grandchildren, Bobby and Diana Greco, Tom Greco, Michael and Christy Greco, Patty and Terry Garrett, Linda and Dan Lyles, Jeannie and Joel Landanyl, David Matheny III, Brian Matheny, Matthew Fredericks, Benjamin and Erin Fredericks, Laura Fredericks, Kettie and Jarrod Lambright, Andy and Carla Matheny; 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob McCarl, Grove City, PA; several nieces, nephews and their families.
Friends will be received Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of private family services at 4 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com.
