Frank Edward Budiscak
Frank Edward Budiscak, 88, of New Brighton, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2015, at Providence Care Center, Beaver Falls, following a period of declining health.
Born August 24, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Thomas M. and Elizabeth (Skvorc) Budiscak.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings, Mildred Budiscak, Joseph P. Budiscak, Barbara (Edward) Kasparek, Zora Kasparek, Florence (Henry) Hrabica, Anne Pauline Druzak, Thomas (Edith Mae) Budiscak.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Ann (James) Wilson, Camp Hill, PA and brother-in-law, Joseph Druzak, New Brighton. Each of his eight siblings always remained at the center of his life. Frank and his siblings were raised by their oldest sister, Millie, following the early death of their mother.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, the former Dolores Jean (Leptock) Budiscak, whom he married on February 13, 1954, and their two children, Nancy (Allen) Morrow, Poland, OH and Brian (Carol) Budiscak, Morristown, NJ. Frank was extremely proud of their five grandsons; they were his pride and joy, Matthew Morrow, Washington, DC; Kyle (Rachael) Morrow, Mars, PA; twins, Andrew and Patrick, along with their brother, Joseph Budiscak, Morristown, NJ.
His grandchildren and his numerous nieces and nephews meant the world to Frank - he loved them with all his heart. Frank was very proud of his Croatian heritage. He enjoyed the food, culture, and traditions of Croatia.
The family would like to express their thanks to his niece, Judy (Hrabica) Reina and family friend, Kevin Bolland for their kindness and help over these past several years.
Frank graduated from New Brighton High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two tours of duty. He was a graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, Berea, OH where he played football and was a member of Sigma Phi Epislon Fraternity.
Frank was a New Brighton Football Hall of Fame Inductee along with his two brothers, Thomas and Joseph.
As a lifelong New Brighton resident, Frank has been a dedicated citizen, business professional, and public servant in the Beaver Valley for over 65 years. He served two terms each on the New Brighton Borough Council and New Brighton School Board. He served as a trustee of Beaver County Community College for many years. Frank was also a member of the Board of the Beaver County Rehabilitation Center. He served as an usher for 46 years at New Brighton Holy Family Church. Frank also has been a member of the American Legion Post 19 for over 60 years.
Frank devoted his career to human resources and personnel development in the steel industry of the greater Pittsburgh area. He worked at Rem-Cru Titanium and Crucible Steel, Midland, PA and he retired from Jones & Laughlin Steel/LTV as the General Supervisor of Employment Services-Eastern Division. Over many decades, Frank helped family, friends and neighbors gain employment.
Frank remained professionally active in the human resource field and worked part-time for many years, for the Bolland Group of Companies, Chippewa, PA.
In his retirement years, Frank walked at the Beaver County YMCA and it was a pleasure for him to spend time each day with his friends, Charles Kennedy and Bill Elliott.
The family would like to thank Dr. Eugene Myers, UPMC Ear/Nose/Throat Hospital for discovering Frank's rare cancer, nasopharyngeal, over 11 years ago. They would also like to thank Drs. Fern and Lancaster, Beaver, for his subsequent treatment and the staff of Providence Care Center and Grane Hospice.
Friends will be received Friday, May 29, 2015, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com. Saturday friends will be received from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m.in Holy Family Catholic Church, New Brighton.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Brighton. Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet in the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. to provide military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made, in his name, to the Holy Family Cemetery Fund, 1851 Third Avenue, New Brighton, PA 15066.
