George L. Herr

George L. Herr, 81, of New Brighton, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.

He was born December 1, 1932 on Marion Hill, the youngest son of the  late Gilbert and Mary (Shepel) Herr. His older brother, Richard, also preceded him in death.

Prior to retirement, he had been a maintenance planner in the by-products department of LTV. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, American Legion Post #19 and F.O.E. #1342, all of New Brighton. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, the former Vera Curcio, and his sons, Scott, Cary, NC, and Don and his wife Debbie of Orlando, FL. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Fred (Mary Ann) Curcio, El Segundo, CA, and two sisters-in-law, Victoria Scott, New Brighton, and Rose Mary Curcio, Beaver Falls. He is also survived by several cousins including David Spegle, and many nieces, nephews and their families.

In addition to his parents and brother, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Nick and Eugene Curcio, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Curcio.

Friends will be received Thursday from 4 p.m. until the time of blessing service at 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, with the Rev. Father Tom Kredel officiating.

At his request, cremation will follow.
