Jack 'Guddie' Ross

Jack "Guddie" Ross, 87, of New Brighton, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013, at Heritage Valley, Beaver.

Born August 31, 1926, in Beaver Falls, a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Leppert) Ross, he was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. Guddie then went to barber school and carpenters training and worked approximately forty years with Ceriani Construction and cut hair every Saturday at the former Park Barber Shop in New Brighton. He was a member of the Carpenters Local #922, the Beaver Falls Wolves Club, the American Legion Post #19, the S.O.I. #1883, both of New Brighton, and the Holy Family Catholic Church of New Brighton, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and Holy Family Gold. He had also served on the New Brighton Council from 1961 to 1965.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah (Perrott) Ross, on March 3, 2006; five sisters, Millie Lebio, Edith Filippone, Norma Krivak, Eleanor DeChellis and Gloria Androla; one brother, Raymond Ross, and his sister-in-law and her husband, Mary Lou and Lewis Demeter.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, James and Cathy Ross, Economy Boro; two daughters and one son-in-law, Julie Martin, New Brighton, and Jacqueline and Michael Ballay, Erie; six grandsons, Jacob and Zachary Ross, Joshua and Jonah Martin, and Cody and Nathan Ballay, and many nieces, nephews and their families.

Friends will be received Sunday from 12 noon until 6 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where prayer will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Tom Kredel officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Brighton. Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 10:45 a.m. Monday at the cemetery to provide military honors.
