John Edward Mikita

John Edward Mikita, 79, of Center, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.

Born January 5, 1947, in Rochester, he was a son of the late John and Grace (Muschweck) Mikita. John was a member of the New Brighton High School class of 1965. He later went on to serve his country in the Vietnam War as a member of the United State Marine Corp. He was a member of the Marion Hill Sportsmen Club, where he served on the board. He liked to hunt, fish, trap & skeet shoot, and snow skiing. He loved animals especially his hunting dogs. John built homes for a living. He enjoyed traveling with his family on trips to places like Key Largo and Jackson Hole.

John is survived by his wife Karen Mikita, son, Ryan Mikita, sisters, Diana McDonnell and Cheryl Gauvey, “hunting buddy,” Jeff Miller, and granddog, Cali “Killer.”

He was predeceased by his parents, in-laws, James and Edna Phillips, brother-in-law; John F. McDonnell, as well as his aunts and uncles.

Friends will be welcomed Saturday, August 29, from 12pm until the time of the service at 4pm, in the J&J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 3rd Ave, New Brighton.

Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America #862 will conduct military honors for their fallen comrade.
