John Thomas Moroney, 71, of Rochester Twp., passed away suddenly Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at UPMC Cranberry Place.

Born May 10, 1943, in New Brighton, a son of the late John W. and Betty (McPherson) Moroney, John was a retired driver for UPS and a member of the Teamsters Union. He studied at Geneva College and received his Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Pittsburgh. John was very active volunteering time with the public library system especially in New Brighton and Rochester Public Libraries. He designed sets for the Red Barn Theater. He enjoyed spending time at the Moroney camp at Pymatuning Lake, traveling to California to see his granddaughters and sitting on the back porch with his cat.

Surviving are his wife, Paula (McCune) Moroney; three sons and daughters-in-law, Aaron and Lisa Moroney, Beaver Falls; Nathan and Elizabeth Moroney, Palo Alto, CA, and John Paul and Jennifer Moroney, Greensburg; two granddaughters Cassiel and Iris Moroney, Palo Alto, CA; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Tom Tillia, Ellwood City; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Brenda Moroney, Gainesville, FL; one brother-in-law, Michael McCune, Roxbury, MS, four nieces and four nephews.

Friends will be received Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where a funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald W. MacNeil officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beaver County Library System, 109 Pleasant Dr., Suite 101, Aliquippa, PA 15001.

Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester. A luncheon celebrating John's life will be held following interment for family and friends.
