John Sawyer

John Sawyer New Brighton John Sawyer, 94, of New Brighton passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Allegheny General Hospital. Born October 23, 1924, in New Brighton, he was the son of the late Luke and Helen (Foxall) Sawyer. He was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School, Class of 1943, and was Veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army Airforce.  John was a former member of the Chippewa United Methodist Church for 50 years and most recently a member of the New Brighton United Methodist Church where he was a member of both choirs.  He sang with the King Beaver Chorus and was a member for 30 years of the Pennsylvania Brittany Club, where he was past president.  John was a carpenter by trade and loved cabinet making, woodworking and was a part of the Skyline Patrol in San Antonio, Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret "Peg" Sawyer, 1985; second wife, Doris Jean Sawyer, 1990, and his third wife, Joanne Spooner Paulson-Sawyer. Surviving are one son, John R. (Toni) Sawyer, Hammondsville, Ohio; one daughter, Ann (Jacob) Johnson McAnlis, Crafton; four step-children, David (Esther) Groth, Chippewa, William (Anna) Paulson, New Brighton, Cindy (James) Richner, Koppel and Christine (Robert) Bierline, New Brighton; sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. in the New Brighton United Methodist Church 1033 6th Ave New Brighton, officiating will be Pastor Scott Berkley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Brighton United Methodist Church,1033 6th Ave New Brighton, Pa 15066. Inurnment will be at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
