Jon A. Neely
Jon A. Neely, 64, of New Brighton, a Vietnam War U.S. Army veteran, passed away on Veterans Day, Sunday, November 11, 2012 at U.P.M.C. Shadyside Hospital. He was to be this year's Grand Marshall in the Annual Beaver County Veterans Day Parade, but lost his battle after a lengthy illness.
Born in Altoona, PA, on March 5, 1948, he was a son of the late Homer J. and Jean L. (Prough) Neely. He retired from the U.S. Post Office in Rochester. Prior to that, he had worked at the former Conrail in Conway. He also served his fellow veterans working at the New Brighton Veterans Administration. Jon was a 1966 graduate of Altoona High School and was a member of the American Legion, Beaver Falls; V.F.W., Rochester and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #862 and was a past officer. He was an avid golfer and Pittsburgh sports fan. He always gave a helping hand and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Linda (Krepps) Salvati Neely; three sons, one daughter and their families, Dawn and Bill Ford and daughters, Jessica and Meagan, Maryland; David and Maria Neely and children, Ashley, Zachari, Caitlyn, Dacia of New Castle, PA; Scott and Laurie Neely and their daughters, Kati and Faith of Beaver Falls, PA, and Christopher and Tammy Neely and children, Nathan, Joey, Caitlyn and Nick, New Castle; step-children, Michael S. Salvati of Beaver, PA and Jessica L. Salvati and her daughter, Leeann of New Brighton; five brothers and their families, Joseph Neely and his wife, Mary, James Neely, Mike Neely and his wife, Tina, Bill Neely and his wife, Connie, Bob Neely and his wife, Bobbi, numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews, all of the Altoona area. He is also survived by his "special" brothers, Nick Poupovich, Jim McCoullough, Jack Web, Jerry Johnson and John Potopa; a special aunt, Dorothy Krepps and her daughters, Debbie Pratt, Merianne Hoapes and Patty Carraduf; a brother-in-law, John Dean Krepps and his wife, Tracy of Harmony Twp. and their daughter, Rhiannon and her husband Marty and their daughter, Sophia of Chicago, IL. He will also be missed by his former wife, Shirley Neely of Rochester.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com.
Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.
Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the cemetery to provide military honors.
