Joseph V. Santangelo, 83, of New Brighton, passed away Saturday January 23, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 20, 1932 in Youngstown a son of the late Joseph and Elena (Massaro) Santangelo. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Navy. After a successful career as an engineer with Edward J. DeBartolo and Michael Baker engineering firms he founded Joseph V. Santangelo & Associates and later Santangelo & Lindsay, Inc. in New Brighton. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, where he was a past president and honored as Engineer of the Year in 1996. Active in his community he served on many boards and committees. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society in New Brighton.
Surviving are wife of 52 years Cecilia (Collins) Santangelo, three daughters and sons-in-law Chrisellen (Jeff) Lindsay, New Brighton, Meredyth (Kenneth) Puller, Baltimore, MD, Laurel (Gregory) Merritt, Allen, TX, one son and daughter-in-law Joseph (Kimberly) Santangelo, Solon, OH, nine grandchildren Brendan, Bridget and Reagan Lindsay, Morgan and Daniel Puller, Nicholas and Christian Merritt, Samuel and Jackson Santangelo, one brother William Santangelo, Youngstown, one sister Sr. Eleanor Santangelo, Ursuline Order, Youngstown, several nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Florence Santangelo and nephew Lawrence Santangelo.
Friends will be received today from 2-4 &6-8 in the J&J Spratt Funeral Home, 11612 Third Avenue, New Brighton, where prayer will be held Tuesday at 9:30am followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10am in Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Tom Kredel officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Brighton.
