Livio R. Pagani, 75, beloved Mayor of Fallston, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016, following a brief illness at Heritage Valley Beaver.
He was born on October 6, 1941, to the late James and Margaret (Gaz) Pagani. Livio lead an active life. Up until a month ago, Livio worked part-time as a vendor for AVI, and part-time at the American Legion Post 19. Livio was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army from January 1964 to January 1966 receiving the Vietnam Presidential Medal.
He had been a member of the New Brighton American Legion Post 19 for the past 50 years. He was a veteran who proudly served his country and continued to serve his community. He remained actively involved in the American Legion until a brief illness took over him during his last month of life. For the American Legion Post 19, he was currently the Vice Commander, and had been the Commander for the past eight years prior to this year, and served on the New Brighton Memorial Day Association. Other services he was involved in to help assist veterans through the American Legion include his role as the Financial Officer of the American Legion 26th District and the *Beaver County Council of the American Legion (*also past Commander). He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Upper Beaver Valley and had been appointed to serve on the Beaver County Veterans Advisory Board/Beaver County Veterans office.
Mr. Pagani had been the Mayor of Fallston since May of 1984 and a member of the Fallston council from 1967-1970 and 1978-1984. He was a member of the Executive Committee for the Beaver County Democratic Party. Livio joined the Fallston Volunteer Fire Department in May of 1967 and had been the Secretary since October 1980.
He was a member of the Saints Peter and Paul Church in Beaver, where he was an usher for many years.
Livio was known as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. The family of Livio Pagani has been proud of all his kind and selfless service and care he gave to the veterans, community, and the family.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years,  Barbara (Emery) Pagani; two daughters and their husbands, Renee (James) Moeller and Diane (Brian) Haffey; six grandchildren, Allen Moeller, Matthew Moeller, Katelyn Haffey, Abigail Haffey, Connor Haffey and Tristan Haffey; one sister and two brothers, Irma (John) Smakosz, Biagio (Alice) Pagani and Eugene (Jackie) Pagani; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Suzan (Thomas) Holaren, Cindy (Walter) Piontek, Andrew ( Sandy) Emery and Michael Emery, in addition, there are numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Zita Pagani, and a nephew, John Smakosz.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where prayer will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in Saints Peter & Paul Church, Beaver, with Rev. Father Tom Kredel officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Brighton.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations in Livio Pagani's name be made to the Angel Fund at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic School or a veteran's program of their choice.
Members of the VVA #862 will meet Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the cemetery to provide military honors.
