Madeline (Kopriva) Ellis
Madeline (Kopriva) Ellis, 79, of New Brighton, passed away Easter Sunday at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born January 5, 1934, in Fallston, she was a daughter of the late George and Bertha (Sullivan) Kopriva. She was an avid volunteer, and an active member of the Holy Family Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Christian Mothers. An extremely compassionate person, she spent most of her time serving as caregiver for family and friends in times of need. For many years, she acted as a judge of elections, and also served as secretary for the Jendota Lodge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony P. Ellis, in 2005; her daughter, Donna Ellis, in 1979, and her sister, Carol McGaffic in 2011.
Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Paul and Barb Ellis, and Ron Ellis, all of New Brighton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen Ellis, Linda and Mitch Carver, all of New Brighton, and Jennifer and Nick Spanos, Venetia; twelve grandchildren, Tage, Angela (Tim), Anthony (Carie), Joshua, Rachel, Brittney, Alyssa, Shelby, Dion, Isaiah, Anastasia and Madeline; four great-grandchildren, Connor, Olivia, Bryce and Mia; one brother, George Kopriva, Marco Island, FL; one sister, Judy Maybray, Katy, TX, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where prayer will be held Thursday at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father Tom Kredel officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Brighton.
