Nick M. Chavlovich, 96, of New Brighton, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the emergency room of Heritage Valley, Beaver.

Born August 16, 1917 in West Bridgewater, a son of the late Nick and Luba (Miladin) Chavlovich, he was a graduate of New Brighton High School, Class of 1937, and was a veteran of World War II serving four years with the U.S. Army. He retired from Washington National Insurance after over twenty-five years. Music was always his first love from an early age. He played for over eighty years with many groups, which included the Plavi Jorgovan as director, the Zlatno Ensemble and the Mike Hegol Orchestra, Ensemble Valovi as director and the Sveti Nikola Ansambl. He was inducted into the Tamburitza Association Hall of Fame in 1997. One his greatest joys was playing for all of his children’s weddings. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, New Brighton, and the C.F.U., Aliquippa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Chavlovich, on August 27, 1998; one infant brother, Frank Chavlovich; a half-sister, Ljuba Pinturic, in Croatia, and his son-in-law, Tim Swager.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Nick and Phyllis Chavlovich, Pittsburgh, and Joe and Elaine Chavlovich, New Port Richey, FL; two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara Swager, New Brighton, and MaryAnn and Joe Marecic, Brighton Twp.; three granddaughters, Michele (Rick) Abbey, New Port Richey, FL, and Nicole and Andrea Chavlovich, Pittsburgh; two great-granddaughters, Delaney and Emma Abbey, New Port Richey, FL, and numerous extended family members here and in Croatia.

Friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where prayer will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the Holy Family Catholic Church, with Rev. Father Robert Miller officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Brighton. Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the cemetery to provide military honors.

The family wishes to thank Trinity Oaks and Gateway Hospice for their compassion and care given to Nick.
