Peter P. Hoodnick, 94, of Brighton Twp., formerly of Fallston, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Beaver Meadows, where he resided for the last seven years.

Born January 26, 1919, in Fallston, a son of the late Ignatius and Antonia (Zuzak) Hoodnick, he was a veteran of WWII serving with U.S. Army stationed in India. In his younger days, he worked in the brickyards in Fallston then moved to Alaska where he learned the trade of carpentry. He came home and joined the carpenter's union Local #922 from where he retired. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #19, and the United Croatian Club, all of New Brighton. He was and avid bowler and golfer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Emory, Frankie and Stevie and five sisters, Mary, Louise, Barbara, Theresa and Ann.

Surviving are one sister, Ruth Cekinovich, Edmond, OK; numerous nieces, nephews and their families, especially Sandra Brandenburg, who cared for Pete in his last years.

Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where prayers will be offered on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Father Tom Kredel, officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Brighton.

The Veteran Honor Guard will meet Saturday at 10:40 a.m. at the cemetery to provide military honors.

The family would like to thank the staff of Beaver Meadows for the care and support that was given to Pete over the past years.
