PV2 Shawn Michael Thomas, 26, of New Brighton, passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 26, 2014 at Ft. Riley, KS.
Born April 14, 1988 in Brighton Twp., he was a son of Anna Dexler of McKees Rocks and Buster Thomas of Ambridge. He had just returned from serving his first tour of duty with the U.S. Army, 3rd Battalion, 1st Aviation Division from Ft. Riley, Kansas. He was a graduate of New Brighton High School, Class of 2007 and Beaver County Vo-Tech.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a son, Khamari Thomas, Ft. Riley; two brothers, Brice Thomas, McKees Rocks, and William Gray, Houston, TX; two sisters, Kaitlyn Gray, Ambridge, and Inez Yellock, McKees Rocks; maternal grandfather, Robert H. Drexler, New Wilmington; paternal grandmother, Pauline Icenhour, New Brighton; two uncles, Christopher Drexler, Ambridge, and Robert Drexler, Aliquippa; one aunt, Debra Drexler, Ambridge; two nephews, Ze'Shawn Thomas and Elijah Thomas; a cousin, David King, Imperial; Shawn's wife, Nataly Ramirez, Ft. Riley, and Anna's fiancé, Larry Early, and his children, Kayla Early and Kevin Early.
Friends will be received Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park with full military honors.
