Raymond F. "Mike" Wood Sr., 91, of New Brighton, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016, at Providence Health Care Center, Beaver Falls.
Born November 5, 1924, in Titusville, a son of the late Wallace S. and Alice (Ross) Wood. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Army and was retired from the Beaver Falls Municipal Authority where he was the meter room supervisor. He and his late wife, Alice, were the owners of the former Al-Ray Ceramics in New Brighton. He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Ambridge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Wood, on August 25, 2004; a daughter-in-law, Debra Wood, on September 10, 2009, and three brothers, Fred, Pete and William Wood.
Surviving are one daughter, Susan (Francis) Matthews, Beaver Falls; two sons, Raymond F. Wood Jr., New Galilee, and Jeffery Wood, Ambridge; five grandchildren, Michael (Jeanette) Matthews, Brian Matthews, Lori (John) Sabella, Mallory (Adam) Tween and Melissa (Alex) Ladakos; seven great-grandchildren, Sean (Sara) Matthews, Michael (Courtney) Gershalt, Britany Matthews, Amanda (Justin) Weismantle, Annie Carling, Amber Matthews and Nathan Matthews, and five great-great-grandchildren, Gabby Weismantle, Zachary Matthews, Dougie Weismantle, Vera Henderson and Marlaina Matthews.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where a blessing service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Father Tom Kredel officiating.
Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 11:15 a.m. at the funeral home to provide full military honors.
