Richard S. 'RG' Groves

Richard S. "RG" Groves, 61, of Sewickley, formerly of New Brighton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 13, 2018, in his home. Born February 18, 1957, he was the son of Herbert Groves, Beaver, and the late Judy (Hogue) Groves. Rick was a 1975 graduate of New Brighton High School and a 1979 graduate of Cal U where he was a three-year starter on the football team. After graduation, he was a teacher and football coach at Charleroi High School for a few years. He then went into sales for B&W and then retired from Henkel Corp. after 28 years.  Rick was an athlete all of his life, especially in football, baseball, basketball and golf. He was elected into the New Brighton Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 and was a fan of all Pittsburgh sports. He was Methodist by faith. A kind, giving person, Rick was competitive and a true leader.  There will only be one "RG" and he will be missed by many. Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Mary Kay (Dressel) Groves; his son, Owen Groves, at home; three sisters, Susan (Dana) Michalke, Beaver; Karen (Mike) Neukamm, Orlando, Fla.; Heather Yates, Morgantown, W.Va.; his stepmother, Annette Groves, Beaver; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dwayne and Margaret "Nana" Hogue. There will be no viewing. Friends will be received Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 11 a.m. until time of memorial service at 3 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com., with the Rev.
