Ronald W. Anderson, 77, of New Brighton , passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 , in his home after a lengthy illness.

Born January 25, 1934 , in New Brighton , a son of the late Lester Nelson and Velma (Balderson) Anderson. Ron was a graduate of New Brighton High School where he was a member of the football team winning championships in 1950 and 1951, for which he was elected to the New Brighton Sports Hall of Fame. Ron was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Air Force and worked for 27 years as a lab tech for the former St. Joe Lead. He was a little league baseball coach for several years with Locke's Exxon, an avid hunter with his friend Bob Our and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Post 19, both of New Brighton .

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty (Hooker) Anderson; two sons, Richard W. Anderson, Upland, CA, and David B. and his wife, Robin Anderson, Driftwood, TX; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Whelan, Long Island, Maine, six grandchildren, Jessica (Nathan) Ziehr, Julia McKenzie, David B., Lauren A., and Sara E. Anderson and Ella Whelan Anderson; three sisters-in-law, Frances Anderson, Oakdale; Mary Feit and Martha Hooker, two brothers-in-law, G. Coulter Hooker and Michael Hooker; several nieces, nephews, their families and numerous cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert G. Anderson, in 2009, and a brother, Donald Anderson.

As per his wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held Thursday, July 7, 2011 , in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave. , New Brighton , www.jjsprattfh.com , with friends being received from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Dickey, officiating.

Inurnment will take place in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park , Rochester .

Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home to provide military honors.
