Ronald A. Benson, 69, of New Brighton, passed away Saturday July 2, 2016 at U.P.M.C. Shadyside.
Born May 19, 1947 in New Brighton a son of the late Elmer C. and Bonita (Funkhouser) Benson. He was a graduate of Beaver High School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Army. He had worked as a locomotive engineer for the Pennsylvania RR, Conrail and retired from Norfolk and Southern RR. Ron has served for past 20 years on the New Brighton Borough Council. He was an avid golfer and loved his oldies.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Kathy (Malagise) Benson, one daughter and son-in-law Nikki and Bill Luffey, Moon Twp., two grandchildren Brenden and Brooke Luffey, one sister and brother-in-law Suellen and Rich Tindell, New Galilee, his mother-in-law Josephine Malagise, Rochester, two sisters-in-law Anita (Tom) Albanese and Phyllis (Greg) Fazio, all of New Brighton, two aunts, Karen Ours and Ruth Funkhouser, both of Sarver, several nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant daughter Kelly Lynn Benson, his maternal grandparents Rolla and Alice Funkhouser, and father-in-law John Malagise.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 12:00pm to 3:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm in the J&J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 Third Avenue, New Brighton, and Thursday from 10:00am until time of blessing service at 11:00am with Rev. Fr. Tom Kredel officiating.
Private interment will take place in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.
Members of the V.V.A. #862 will meet at 11:00am at the funeral home to provide military honors.
