Samuel J. Cardosi

Samuel J. Cardosi, 89, of New Brighton, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Heritage Valley, Beaver, lovingly surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Born August 3, 1925 in New Brighton, a son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Pelligrino) Cardosi. Sam was self-employed and had his own barber business for over 50 years in downtown New Brighton. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and Korean War, served in the South Pacific and took part in several invasions and was a member of the Amphibious Forces serving aboard LST & LCI. He served as secretary of Barbers Local 280, was the Secretary of the S.O.I 1883 for 15 years, and was a member of St. Joseph Choir for 30 years. He was also a member of S.P.O.S.A.-Barbershop Chorus of Beaver County and of the Legion Post 19 for over 60 years where he worked on the Bingo Crew for 30 years. He sang with the Beaver Valley Retired Men's Club called "Men of Melody". He loved to sing and would take requests most everywhere he went. It was his way of making someone's day a little brighter. He loved the game of golf and spent many a beautiful day on golf courses throughout the valley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Swasta) Cardosi; an infant daughter; his brothers, Leonard, Nick, and Billy; his sister, Marianna; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Cardosi and Lucille Cardosi; a brother-in-law, Anthony Bobin; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Harding; a niece, Debbie Harding; a nephew, Mark Cardosi, and many of his customers who he prayed for every day.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory and Tammy Cardosi, Beaver Falls and Robert and Kelley Cardosi, New Brighton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and James Goda, Charlotte, NC; Nancy and Scott Sheets, New Brighton and Janet and Brent Smith, Daugherty Township; ten grandchildren, Leslianne, Joshua, Vincent, Jessica, Tyler, Samuel, Ryan, Cody, Sydney, and Andrew; two great-grandchildren, Alexa and Ali Jade; his in-laws, Antoinette Cardosi, Jean Cardosi Eckhardt, Cecilia and David Kellogg, Kathleen Bobin, Edward Harding, Joseph and Leslie Swasta and many nieces, nephews and their families.
At his request there will be no viewing. The family will receive friends at Holy Family Church at 521 7th Avenue, New Brighton, Saturday November 1, from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. The Reverend Father Tom Kredel will officiate.
The family wish memorials be made in his name, if desired, to Holy Family Parish, 1851 Third Avenue, New Brighton, PA 15066.
Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 11:45 a.m. in the cemetery to provide military honors.
