Stephen Musuta, 87, of Vanport, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the home of his son in Industry.

Born February 5, 1927, in New Brighton, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Haluska) Musuta. At the age of 1, he and his family moved back to Slovakia where he stayed until the age of 21 when he moved back to New Brighton. In Slovakia he became a Partizan fighter in the Slovak National Uprising. He was also a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Army. He had worked at Rheem Manufacturing in Monaca for 22 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #19 and was the former SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, both of New Brighton.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Donna (Alderdice) Musuta; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Joanna Musuta, Industry; four grandchildren, Charity (Jeff) Pomaybo, Chippewa Twp.; Thomas (Rachel) Onuska, Brazzaville, Congo; Jacqueline (Justin) Myers, Toronto, OH, and Timothy II (Mallory) Musuta, Garden City, MI; seven great-grandchildren, Justin Larrison, Eli Onuska, Hadley Myers, Isiah Musuta, Noah Musuta, Makayla Simon and Liam Musuta; two sisters, Helen Jankowski, Beaver Falls, and Marta Petrak, Ruzemberok, Slovakia; one cousin, Eleanor Musuta, North Sewickley Twp., and several nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters, and a son, Jeffrey Musuta.

Friends will be received Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until time of blessing service at 11 a.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, with the Rev. Father Bob Miller officiating.

Interment will follow in Beaver Cemetery.

Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the cemetery to provide military honors.
