Steve S. 'Sully' Sullivan

Steve S. "Sully" Sullivan, 82, of New Brighton, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013, at Heritage Valley, Beaver.

Born January 1, 1931, in New Brighton, he was a son of the late Steve S. and Jemima (Grimes) Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan served in the United States Army from 1947 until 1953. He did his basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and his overseas tours of duty included the Philippines, Japan and Korea. He was awarded the Bronze Star of Valor, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Philippine Liberation with two Battle Stars, Japan Occupation, Korean Occupation with three Battle Stars, Prisoner of War Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Presidential Citation. Having served with distinction throughout his military career, Mr. Sullivan wore his uniform proudly. He brought proficiency and expertise to his challenging assignments, and his performance and devotion to duty reflect his unwavering allegiance to the highest standards of military service. He retired from the former Westinghouse Electric, Vanport, and was a member of the I.B.E.W. and the American Legion, Post #19, New Brighton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie E. Sullivan, on January 27, 2001; three brothers, Allen, Wayne and George and a sister, Mildred Marx.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Shannon Sullivan, Monaca, and Scott and Kristy Sullivan, Daugherty Twp.; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Sean Sullivan; a special friend, Mary Taglieri, and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where a funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Donald W. MacNeil, of the Church of the Nazarene, New Brighton, officiating.

Interment will follow in Grove Cemetery, New Brighton.

The family sends special thanks to Life of Beaver County, especially Sebrenna, Shannon and Dr. Mantini. They also give heartfelt thanks to Barb, Dave and kids for their care and compassion given to their "sorta pap".

Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the cemetery to provide full military honors.
