William E. "Bub" Chontos, 83, formerly of New Brighton, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Brighton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born 1933, in McKeesport, a son of the late William and Grace (Minford) Chontos. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving at the end of the Korean War. He was a retired social studies teacher from New Brighton High School, where he finished his football coaching career. He had started his coaching career at Canevin Catholic High School and also coached at Uniontown High School and Clairton High School, where he was voted Coach of the Year. He had a passion for the outdoors, which he passed on to his students by starting a Hunting and Fishing Club.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Andrea (Koslosky) Chontos; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Helen Chontos, Brighton Twp.; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Dave Logan, Beaver; four grandchildren, Zach and Shelby Logan and Sydney and Braylon Chontos; one sister, Dolores Raynak, Jefferson Hills, several nieces, nephews and their families.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com, where prayer will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Tom Kredel officiating.
Cremation will take place after the Mass.
