Charles V. Smith III, 74 of Independence Twp., passed away unexpectedly Friday, October 1, 2021, at his home.
Born November 23, 1946, in New Brighton a son of the late Charles V. and Mary Catherine (Durkin) Smith, he was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U. S. Army. Charles was the HR Manager for General Electric for 20 years. He was a beloved history professor at Community College of Beaver County for 20 years. He graduated from St Veronica High School, Ambridge, PA and later attended Franciscan University of Steubenville. Charlie received his Master’s Degree from Duquesne University.
Charles is survived by his beloved girlfriend Marian Smith, Baden, his sister Patricia (Smith) Brown, Sewickley, nephew Patrick Brown, Dearborn, Michigan, and one aunt, Beverly Durkin, McCandless Township. Many loving cousins, friends and former students will greatly miss Charlie aka CV.
In addition to his mother and father he was preceded in death by his brother Terrence “Smitty” Smith and his brother-in-law Marvin Brown.
Friends will be received Thursday from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at the J&J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 3rd Avenue, New Brighton. On Friday, there will be a brief viewing at the J&J Spratt Funeral Home beginning at 10:00am with a short recitation of prayers at 10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will commence at 11:00am at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Parish, Holy Family Church, 521 7th Avenue, New Brighton.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 1501 1st Avenue, New Brighton.
Members of the Beaver County Special Unit will meet at the cemetery to provide military honors.
