Donald H. Dowdy, 88, of New Brighton, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020, at Beaver Meadows.

Born April 19, 1932, in Sedalia, Missouri, he was a son of the late Leonard and Lucille (Hodges) Dowdy.  He was a retired maintenance foreman for Valspar Corporation.  He was a veteran of United States Army.  A devout Catholic he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.  He was a former member of the Serra Club.  He loved to golf and hunt, as well as watching the Steelers, and other sports.  He enjoyed maintaining his yard and his home, and loved the colors of spring.  Most of all he loved his wife Flo who he shared a wonderful marriage of 66 years, as well as his family.

Surviving along with his wife, Florence (Kwiatkowski), are his children, Donald H. Dowdy Jr. (Karol), Gerald W. Dowdy (Gaylind), Marcy Garuccio (Dominic), Valerie Dowdy, grandchildren, Donald H. Dowdy III (Mara P.), Jeannie Orend, Timothy Dowdy, Erin Geis, Seth Dowdy, Leah Kordecki (Todd), Marissa G. Green (Jason), and Paul Garuccio, 11 great-grandchildren, brother, David Dowdy (Sue), sister, Louise; also special friends Lenny and Margie Murawski, Terry and Sandy Ciccone, Rick Burkihiser, and Denny Rodgers.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leonard and Gerald Dowdy.

Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm, at the J&J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 3rd Avenue, New Brighton, PA.  A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10am, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father Bob Miller officiating.

We are adhering to the guidelines of the CDC; all guests must wear masks to protect one another as well as maintaining the 6 ft. distancing rule.  Only 25 people are permitted in the funeral home at one time. If people are not comfortable with following the guidelines no offense will be taken by staying home.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: American Lung Association or the Disabled American Veterans Charity.
