Donna Magestro Obituary

Donna L. Magestro, 81, of New Brighton, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at Concordia Villa St. Joseph.

Born August 30, 1941, in New Brighton, she is the daughter of the late Alfred and Betty (Hogue) Zarrillo.  Donna played ladies softball in the 70’s and she was instrumental in developing multiple softball fields in New Brighton.  She worked for New Brighton Borough as a secretary from 1959 to 1967.   Donna worked for Tuscarora Plastics in the payroll department from 1975 to 2001.  She enjoyed her two card clubs with her high school friends from the time they graduated until 2020, she was member of the Red Hat Society, volunteered at the Christ Church soup kitchen in New Brighton, loved taking bus tours with her friends to the casino or anywhere else.  Most of all she enjoyed her vacations to Myrtle Beach with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Charles Magestro; sister, Carol Snyder; mother and father-in-law, Angelina and Rev. Charles Magestro, sister-in-law, Fran Magestro.

Surviving are her children, Leigh Ann (Timothy) Kalcevic, Daugherty Twp.; Michael (Sabra) Magestro, Gilbert S.C.; Nancy (Matt) Popovich, Harrison City, Pa; seven grandchildren, Samantha Kalcevic (Chuck Cook), Steven (Elizabeth) Kalcevic, Brittney (Michael) Van Norman, Kaylee Magestro, Jacob, Christopher, and Olivia Popovich; great grandchildren, Everly Kalcevic, Maya Van Norman, Olivia Van Norman; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy (Rick) Snowden, Daugherty Twp.; brothers-in-law, Richard Magestro (Dolly Aley), North Sewickley Twp., Kenneth (Lisa) Magestro, Rochester, Lee Snyder; several nieces, nephews and their families.

Friends will be received Friday from 2 p.m. until time of service at 6 p. m. in J & J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 Third Ave, New Brighton.  Pastor Donald W. MacNeil, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the Alzheimer’s Association, 2835 E. Carson Street, Suite 200, Pittsburgh, Pa 15203.

Donna will be laid to rest beside her husband, Michael Charles Magestro in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
