Elizabeth "Liz" (Lawson) Mowry, 74, of New Brighton, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018, in her home after a brief illness.
Born June 9, 1944, in Rochester, a daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth "Betty" (Anderson) Lawson, Liz was a graduate of New Brighton High School and Slippery Rock University. She served as a teacher in the New Brighton School District for just one year before moving to Alaska where her husband was stationed in the Army. When they returned home, she accepted a position as the Director of the New Brighton Public Library where she served in that position for 41 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of New Brighton where she served as a Deacon. Liz's greatest joy was spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, John W. Mowry; a son, J. Neal (Chrislyn), New Brighton; daughters, Lauren (Adam) Cesnales, Harmony, Pa.; Emily (Rocco) Dobran, Conneaut, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Hannah, Kendal and Nathan Mowry and Carrick, Wyant, Roxie and Maisie Dobran; three sisters, Amy (Jim) Moore, Jane (Fred) Fath, Ellen Gruber and brother-in-law, Richard Porter, and many nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and David Lawson; a sister, Joyce Porter; a brother-in-law, Robert Gruber, and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Betsy" Mowry.
Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the J&J SPRATT FUNERAL HOME, 1612 Third Ave., New Brighton, www.jjsprattfh.com. Tuesday friends will be received in the First Presbyterian Church from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Goossen officiating.
