Joan M. (Primo) Powers Suman

Joan Suman, 82, of New Brighton, our beloved mother received her Angel wings, Friday, April 22, 2022, at PAM Health Specialty at Heritage Valley, Beaver.

Born December 27, 1939, in Rochester, Pa., she is the daughter of the late Anthony and Clara (Heyman) Primo.  Joan enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting, cross stitch, and crafting with plastic canvas.  She spent many years singing in the St. Pudentiana and Holy Family church choirs.  She worked in banking, catering, and at Altmeyers Home Store in the Northern Lights shopping plaza.  She was very generous and contributed to several charities.  We enjoyed all her storytelling over the years, and she will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, John R. Powers, Sr., 2nd Husband, Anthony J. “Tony” Suman; daughter, Elizabeth A. “Beth” Blackburn; and sister, Cathy Primo Kinlock.

Surviving are her children, Tina (David) Gill, Daugherty Twp., John R. (Lydia) Powers, Jr., Morgantown, WV, Joanna (Bud) Cloughley, Spotsylvania, VA; eleven grandchildren, David Gill and Leanne (Ryan) Burger, Samuel (Kaila), Ashley, Paige, and Chloe Powers, Robert, Ryan, and Rory Cloughley, Adam and Andrew Blackburn; two great grandchildren, Peyton Powers and Everleigh Burger; brother, Frank (Janet) Primo, Monaca, sister, Antoinette (Richard) Primo Fabyanic, New Brighton; and son-in-law, David Blackburn, New Brighton.  Joan is also survived by her step-daughter, Melanie Suman, Rochester, and two step-sons, Richard (Tammy) Suman, Monaca, and Kelly Suman, King of Prussia; three grandchildren and three great-grandsons.

Friends will be received Thursday from 2 p.m. until time of Blessing Service at 6:00 p.m. in the J & J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 Third Ave, New Brighton. 

Joan will be interred in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery beside her first husband, John R. Powers, Sr.
