John P. Smakosz age 88 passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on January 1st, 2021 after an extended illness. Born the son of the late Adam and Anna F.(Ostrowski)Smakosz, John was a good family man who lived his life always putting family first. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, pap, great pap, and uncle. He leaves his family with the priceless gift of many wonderful memories he gave so selflessly to them; from holiday celebrations, family gatherings, vacations-especially the vacations at Treasure Lake. John lived a good successful life. He served his country during the Korean War in the Army and was honorably discharged at the status of Corporal and was a life member of the American Legion Post 19. He worked at the B & W for 36 years, at retirement he was the Assistant General Foreman. In addition to serving his country and working career, John served the Fallston Community as Tax Collector for 28 years. Surviving are his loving wife Irma of 67 years, 3 children; Annamarie(Mike) Pivarnik, Nancy(Frank) Bonetti, Ted(Joanne) Smakosz, 5 Grandchildren, Michael(Tracy)Pivarnik, Rachel(Tom)Loudermilk, Valerie Pivarnik(Buddy McMullen), Jacob (Heather)Smakosz, and Emily(Matt) Grove. Six Great Grandchildren Isabella & Alex Pivarnik, Lucas & Emmarie Loudermilk, Cole Grove, and Ivy Smakosz. 2 sisters-in-laws Tanya Smakosz and MaryLynn Smakosz 2 Brother-in-laws Badge (Alice)Pagani, Eugene Pagani, sister-in-law Barbara Pagani In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, John P Smakosz, Jr., 4 sisters; Stella(John ) Kompa, Frances (George ‘Lefty’)Brown, Flornce(Chuck)Skolnik, Mary(Ted STolarski). 2 Brothers Adam Smakosz, and Richard Smakosz. 1 Brother-in-law Livio Pagani There are numerous nephews and nieces who survive, and four deceased nephews who are rememberd at this time: Bobby Kompa, Chet Chirichetti, Richy Skolnik, and AJ Smakosz. At this time the family wishes to mention a special thanks to John’s caregivers: Renee Johnson, Tammi Mesko, Patty Chenet, and Amedisys Hospice Staff. Due to COVID private services and Mass of Christian Burial were held.
