Katherine M. Scanlon

May 4, 1931 ~ April 17, 2022 (age 90)

At the age of 90, our much-loved mother, Kate Scanlon, wife of the late John R (Jack) Scanlon, went to heaven on Easter Sunday carried by the love of her children.  First in her life was always her strong Catholic faith and devotion to the saints.  She was widely respected and loved for her commitment to and unending support of her children, her “9 Ks”.  She was also known for her love of adventures/traveling, good restaurants, fashion and fun. She was the consummate mother who together with our father, provided us each with a magical, loving and privileged childhood. Our mom was a model of dignity, strength, encouragement and by example, taught us to treat everyone with respect and individual attention.

Left to marvel at her life and miss her forever are the 9 K’s: Kerry, Beaver Falls; Dr. Kim Lieb (late Vince), Moon Township; Kevin (Vicki), Little Rock Arkansas; Kathy Dailey (Scott), Mesa Arizona; Karol Williams (Dan), Westfield Center Ohio; Kerwin (Jenifer), Brooklyn Michigan, Kelly Pecora (Paul), Santa Fe New Mexico; Kieran (Claudia), Sewickley and Kristopher (Beaver Falls).  She is also the much-loved Grams/Grandma/GaGa to 17 grandchildren: Jack Lieb, Vincent Lieb, Bryan Scanlon, Leigh Scanlon Keener, Laura Scanlon Hum, Colin Dailey, Kirsten Dailey Lopez, Katie Scanlon, Klaire Scanlon, Sara Pecora, King Pecora, Jessica Pecora, Nick Pecora, Connor Scanlon, Kiera Scanlon, Brenden Scanlon, Vanessa Scanlon and step-grandmother to Brandon Williams.  Her legacy includes 11 great grandchildren: Jackson, Beckett, Bryce, Holland, Laura Beth, Harrison, Luke, Anne Elizabeth, Jackson, John Ryan and Hayes.

In addition to her husband Jack and son-in-law Vince, she was preceded in death by her parents, Sebastian and Anna Medaglia, 5 sisters (Minnie, Mary, Angie, Carm and Fran) and 5 brothers (Westie, Tommy, Joe, Jimmy and Johnny).

Following a private viewing, friends will be received by the family Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the J & J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 Third Ave, New Brighton. Rosary will be recited Thursday at 6 p.m. in the funeral home.  Prayers will be held Friday at 9:20 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Monica’s Roman Catholic Church, Beaver Falls.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Beaver Falls.

The 9 K’s would like to especially express their gratitude to Franciscan Manor, Beaver Falls.  The Administration, Dr. Timothy Jackson, Nurses, Nurse’s aides and every staff member that provided mom such a kind, supportive and loving home over the past 6 months.  We would also like to acknowledge Advanced Hospice for their compassionate support that they gave to our mom over the last few difficult weeks.

Mom really hated to wear the color black.  She refused to wear it to Dad’s funeral.  Her favorite color was pink.  If you feel so inclined, you are invited to wear some shade of something pink in her memory.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to McGuire Memorial, 2119 Mercer Road, New Brighton, Pa 15066.
