Lois Jean (Shroads) Merz

Lois Jean (Shroads) Merz, 96, formerly of New Brighton and Jersey Shore, PA, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.

She was born December 20, 1926, in New Brighton.  Lois was the daughter of the late Myron and Eleanor (Arnold) Shroads.  After graduating from Geneva College and Penn State University, she went on to serve as a school teacher in New Brighton and South Williamsport.  Lois enjoyed her retirement years in Beaver County where she was an active Methodist.  She enjoyed hosting her grandchildren for the Little League World Series.  She was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan especially Pitt and her beloved Steelers. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Shroads, husband, Harry E. Merz, her son, John C. Spratt, stepson, Harry Merz, granddaughter, Joni Brackman, and first husband, John “Jack” Spratt.

She is survived by her children, Karen Tymous, Beaver Falls, Joseph (Sherrie) Spratt, Patterson Twp., Constance (Nils) Juarez, Chippewa, daughter-in-law, Robin (Dave) Molnar, stepson, Edward (Jane) Merz, Broken Bow, OK, stepdaughter-in-law, Nancy Merz, Perry, NY, grandchildren, Robert, Gregory, Zep, Jordan, Jaqueline, Kristen, Rebecca, Michelle, Amanda, Julie, Jennifer, Molly, Susan, Matthew, and Mary, along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She will live in the memories of many.

The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia at Villa St Joseph Assisted Living, Baden, where she was the very first resident, as well as Good Samaritan Hospice, especially Ashley.

Memorial Service will be held at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to grandson, Joseph “Zep” Spratt of J&J Spratt Funeral Home, Inc.
