Mary Ellen (Maloney) Hinkle, 86, of New Brighton, PA, peacefully entered heaven early Wednesday morning, June 28th. Mary Ellen was surrounded by close family members when she left this earth.
Mary Ellen was born on December 30th, 1936, in Atwater, Ohio, to James Frances Sr. and Dova Lee Maloney. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar “Sonny” Hinkle, and her parents, James Frances Sr. and Dova Lee Maloney. She is survived by sons Terry (Kathy) and Chris Hinkle, daughter Michelle (Jason) Ostrow, brothers Lloyd (Judee) and Robert (Deborah) Maloney, sister Norah (Richard) Sutton, grandchildren Forest (Jackie) DeVore, Kodie, Karlie, Erik, Erika, Donavan, and Jarod-Michael (Krystal) Hinkle, Katen, and Keria Ostrow, great-grandchildren Melody, Harmony, and Malachi Hinkle, and Trey and Ivy DeVore, as well her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Ethan Hinkle.
Mary Ellen was known by many as a selfless and caring individual. She never hesitated to lend a hand whenever asked. She was very active within the community and often recognized wherever she went. She was an avid baker who made elaborate cakes, cookie tables and was best known for her beautiful wedding cakes and lady locks. Any time the Steelers played, she was watching and cheering for her favorite team; she even had her grandchildren call into Dancing with the Stars to vote for Heinz Ward. Mary Ellen was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her memory will live on in all our hearts; she will forever be deeply missed.
A viewing will be held at J&J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 Third Ave, New Brighton on Wednesday, July 5th, from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Prayers will be held Thursday in the funeral home at 10 am, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of the Valley Parish, New Brighton at 10:30 am. Following the mass, Mary Ellen will be laid to rest next to Oscar Hinkle at Sylvania Hills Cemetery in New Brighton, PA. After being laid to rest, there will be a luncheon at Our Lady of the Valley social hall in New Brighton, PA.
