Rose Marie “Cookie” Curcio, 93, of Beaver Falls and New Brighton, died July 31, 2022. She was the daughter of Carl and Mary Cook of Beaver Falls. Playing off of her last name, most people knew her as Cookie.
Rose Marie was a 1946 graduate of Beaver Falls Senior High School. Following graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Fame Laundry and Armour Meat Packing. She married her husband, Nicholas Curcio, in 1951 and dedicated her time to raising her family and volunteer work.
She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church in New Brighton (which became Holy Family Parish), and served in many activities including: money counter, Catholic Daughters of America, The Gold, Bingo, Annual Bazaar, and various fund raisers for the cemetery. She was a member of Beaver Falls Sportsman’s Clubs Ladies Auxillary. When her children were young, she worked in the school cafeteria, served on the PTA, helped as a Girl Scout leader and with a 4H Sewing club.
Rose Marie was interested in politics and served as a Judge of Elections for many years. At one time she served as an officer in the Daugherty Township Democrat Club.
She loved watching sports and was a fan of all the Pittsburgh professional teams as well as those of the local high schools. She enjoyed playing cards with her many wonderful friends. In her early senior years, she never missed an organized bus trip to a new casino. She also delighted in attending as many major events as she could which involved her three grandchildren. No one enjoyed receiving birthday cards more than her, and she could tell you the total number received each year.
