Velma Csuy Obituary

Velma J. (Sallie) Csuy, 86, of Passavant Retirement Community, Zelienople, formerly of New Sewickley and North Sewickley Twps. passed away peacefully Friday, September 27, 2019.

Sallie was born in Brookline, PA to the late Allen and Velma (Sterzing) Machesney October 25, 1932. She was a graduate of Dormont High School, graduating in 1950. She worked at The Pittsburgh Sun Telegraph and Gimbels Dept Store prior to marrying her “sweetie”, John Csuy August 13, 1955.

Sallie began her love of dance at age 3, excelling and teaching in her teens and beyond. She also studied piano as a child, and as an adult found enjoyment in playing the organ. She was a member of the Beaver Valley Organ society.

Sallie was an involved parent, active in St. Felix School PTG and Freedom Area Band Parents. She continued that involvement with her grandchildren, volunteering her time and talents at Mt. Gallitzin Academy assisting in the art program teaching weaving and fiber arts. She was an avid hand- weaver, a juried artist in several area shows.

Sallie and John resided in New Sewickley Twp. for 34 years, raising their family. They also raised goats, which brought Sallie much joy, especially caring for the babies.

Besides her parents, Sallie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, her son, John S. Csuy, brother, Donald L. Machesney, son-in-law, Lindsey Altvatter and daughter-in-law, Dolores Renee Csuy Casto.

Sallie is survived by her two daughters; Julie (Tim) Brown, Neenah, WI; Kathryn (Meg) Csuy-Altvatter and Dan Musgrave, New Sewickley Twp. Five grandchildren; Samantha Brown Taifi, Brooklyn,NY, Stephanie Brown (Blake Carson), Minneapolis, MN; John R. (Alyshia) Csuy, New Brighton, William J. (Amanda) Csuy, Ellwood City, Aaron J. Csuy, New Brighton; One great grandchild, Edward Eugene Stephan Csuy, Ellwood City and a soon to be born great-grandchild. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Kathryn Machesney, Burleson Texas as well as several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 4pm – 8pm at the J&J Spratt Funeral Home, 1612 3rd Ave. New Brighton, where prayers will be held Wednesday at 10:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11am in the St. Felix Catholic Church, 450 13th St., Freedom.

Entombment will follow at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Beaver County Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
