James Edward Murphy, 23, of Daugherty Twp., passed away peacefully March 9, 2017, at McGuire Memorial Home.

Born October 12, 1993, in Mt. Pleasant, Pa., he was the son of Phyllis (Murphy) Welty and the late Joseph R. Welty, Jr. James was a very well-liked resident of McGuire and was referred to as the "Chief Meteorologist" known for his daily weather reports. He was also the "Honorary Chairman" of the McGuire Memorial Charity Golf Classic and the Daugherty Twp. Fire Department. James was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, loved Christmas, music and was always excited to interact with people. He would always say "I am so excited, my mom and dad are coming to see me." He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his stepfather, George Miller; three brothers, Robert Murphy and his girlfriend Mollie, Joseph Welty, and Jacob Welty-Johnson; two sisters, Elizabeth Leighty and her boyfriend William Patterson, and Jennifer (Michael) Patterson; step-grandfather, Clarence Nelson, and several aunts and uncles.

Also surviving are his guardian and faithful best friend, Lisa Greco.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Kenneth Sr. and Ellen (Mulnix) Murphy, and paternal grandmother, Sally Nelson.

Friends will be received Tuesday, March 14, 2017, from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at the McGuire Memorial Home, 2119 Mercer Rd., New Brighton, followed by a funeral service at noon. Father Michael Greb, O.F.M. Cap., and Rev. Gregory Clagg, will officiate.

Burial will be held in Greenlick Cemetery, Bullskin Twp., Fayette County.
